ML is housed in a well-appointed National Monument in the centre of the attractive heart of the historical city of Haarlem. Featuring a cosy inner court yard, the stately building offers a surprising combination of 17th-century grandeur and a pleasant contemporary decoration. Head chef Mark Gratama’s elegant cuisine is imaginative and exiting because of the surprising flavour combinations.
The decor is tight and classic and offers a gentle background for the culinary sensations presented by chef Mark Gratama. The roomy table lay-out, the serene colours and the pleasant acoustics owing to the high ceilings provide a sensation of privacy even when the restaurant is full.
Hostess Liane Gratama leads a young and professional brigade. She has a keen eye for price/quality ratios when it comes to composing set menus and selecting wines for her attractive wine list. Hence the wine list is, rather than a standard presentation of great names from the classic regions, a real wine-lover list with many carefully selected trouvailles ready to accompany the dishes in a subtle and supporting manner.
Nothing is nicer than to enjoy delicious dishes and attractive wines on a nice warm summer’s day in ML’s inner courtyard. The garden is also perfectly suitable for festive gatherings such as weddings and other parties.
